Loch Ness Monster sketch from my ipad

I recently read a couple of articles about sketching on the iPad by children’s book illustrator Will Terry and thought I ‘d pass them along. If you’re like me and are addicted to sketching on paper you probably never thought about the iPad as a serious tool for drawing or sketching.

Last night I decided to give it a try and loaded up the brushes app Will mentioned in his article. Admittedly, it felt a little clunky at first but as I became more comfortable with the program, and in particular with it allowing me to zoom in on my sketch,  I could see many advantages to working this way… not to mention eliminating the piles of paper I go through to create a picture book.

I took the sketch into illustrator and finished it the same way I would using a sketch on paper.

I’m always looking to try new and better ways, so if you have a favorite sketch app you’d like to recommend, I’d love to hear about it. Just leave a comment and a link and I’ll be sure to check it out.

I read Will Terry’s article as well. I think I’m going to try out that app, although drawing with my finger seems like it’ll be a little awkward. Maybe I’ll have to get a stylus.
