My name is Bob Ostrom and I am a children’s book illustrator. I’ve been illustrating children’s’ books for over 20 years. You can find my art in almost any book store or library. My job is really fun. In fact, I guess when it comes right down to it, my whole job is just about making stuff fun. I do a lot of drawing but that’s not all I do. Sure, there’s the business stuff, phone calls, scheduling planning and all that but I’m also a teacher.
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve loved to draw cartoons. Unfortunately I was never able to find anyone who would teach me so I learned by tracing art by all my favorite cartoonists. When I found cartoons I liked I would spend hours studying them and trying to figure out how the artist created them. I can remember dragging my tattered copy of Your a Good Man Charlie Brown out over and over again as I learned to draw all the Peanuts characters. Eventually the spine gave out and the pages came loose but not before I was able to draw Charlie Brown and Snoopy on my own. I vowed one day when I was older I would become a famous cartoonist and teach kids everywhere how to draw cartoons.
I’m not sure if you could call me famous but I do teach kids everywhere how to draw cartoons. Ten years ago after moving to Raleigh, North Carolina I first began setting up cartooning classes for kids. I also make appearances at libraries and schools where I get to teach cartooning classes to kids of all ages… and sometimes even adults. My classes can fill up pretty quickly and sometimes people are just too far away so last year I decided to make a website where I could teach cartooning to kids all over the world. On this site you will find all kinds of step by step drawing lesson, video tutorials and every Friday I update the site with something new that kids can download. It’s called Fun Stuff Friday and you can find it under the Fun Stuff heading on the home page.
